I had driven by Doug's many times while living in Dallas. One day I stopped, walked in, and asked Doug if I could document his gym and the people who worked out inside. He answer was ... "No". A year later I joined the gym and started on a journey that would take me into a very special place where fitness, mental health, and community where paramount. Doug started his gym in 1962 and has been the sole owner the entire time. Traditional training methods, iron weights, and open windows are the constant backdrop to the gym. Along the way I would begin to document his gym, the people inside, and learn again many things forgotten.
Home away from home ...
The connection to the thought, emotion, feelings, and soul of a person.
My personal affinity for modern architecture is perhaps most deeply embodied by Chicago.
