Ansel Adams was born on February 20, 1902, in San Francisco, California. His family came to California from New England, after migrating from Ireland in the early 1700s. Adams was known as a hyperactive and sickly child with few friends. Adams taught himself the piano, which would become his early passion.
In 1916, following a trip to Yosemite National Park, he also began experimenting with photography. Between 1929 and 1942, Adams’ work and reputation developed. Adams expanded his repertoire, focusing on detailed close-ups as well as large forms, from mountains to factories. During this period, Adams joined photographers Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans in their commitment to affecting social and political change through art. Adams’ first cause was the protection of wilderness areas, including Yosemite.
Project Scope - Special consultant for the Museum at Texas Tech University for the Exhibition, “Ansel Adams American Master, selections from the David H. Arrington Collection”. The exhibition was the largest Adams exhibit to date at just over 100 original Adams works. My position was consulting with the Education Department on Adams camera and darkroom techniques.
The exhibition was presented by Texas Tech University and the Sierra Club.

Millicent Rogers (1902-1953) was the granddaughter of Henry Huttleston Rogers, one of the founders of the Standard Oil Company. At her homes in New York, Virginia, Italy and elsewhere, she entertained the great and splendid from American industrialists to European nobility. She was the fashionista of her day.
In her later years, she visited and eventually settled in Taos, New Mexico. Here, she became close friends with many of the founding members of the Taos artist’s colony, including Dorothy Brett.
The museum rotates its collections on a frequent basis through its galleries. The museum is unique in the Southwest because of its intimate exhibit spaces. The museum is housed in a hacienda that was donated by the family of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Anderson. Enlarged over time, including a wing by the famed architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, the museum is truly a place to come face to face with the rich and diverse heritage of the cultures of the Southwest.

“FedEx, Solutions that Matter” was a parallel campaign (web and print) that ran with national TV spots. This version used its own specific imagery with web design using FedEx brand standard colors and fonts. Web production was completed in Memphis with photography captured in Dallas. The new work from FedEx’s long-time creative agency, BBDO New York, retained the classic humor and emotional appeal associated with FedEx advertising. However, it has been evolved to focus more specifically on small businesses, and how small businesses have changed within today’s economic climate.

Note from Qing Zhou - Editor - Simple Style
At the end of August, I wrote an article in simple style recommending the photography works of David McGhee. At first, I fell in love with this photographer from Texas because of his words. He said, "Photography is like a mirror, reflecting a better or worse self. No matter how difficult this cognition is, it is so important for photographers to look inside." David sent me an email to express his gratitude And asked about the columnists. Examine your heart, follow your inner wishes and thoughts, and live a simple and real life, just like the feeling we get from admiring David McGhee's land photography works Pinal County. His interview reminded me of the poem written by the symbolist poet Rimbaud at the end of the 19th century: "La vie est d'ailleur!", run away, stay away, wander, let the soul exile. Simple Style was very honored to invite American photographer David McGhee to be our seventh columnist.

Doug Eidd put a $1k deposit on a little POS gym on Commerce Street in Dallas, Texas during the hot summer of 1962. He saw the future fitness kick coming way before Oliva Newton-John sang about it, Gold’s Gym preached it, and way before 24-Hour Fitness was dreamed up in some marketing meeting. He made it his for the next 56 years.

Always in evolution and revolution. Brand new in building or in less than stellar condition I love it all.
The Texas-Mexico border may often be thought of as a hard line between lands and cultures. The truth is that line is very blurred and often not even seen in the more desperate parts of that area. The people and the land blend together like a dream that quietly becomes another. Sometimes unsure and often beautiful.
